2023 Survey Responses

WHAIS User Satisfaction Survey 2023 – User comments and responses

Below is a summary of the comments received from service users during the survey released in April 2023.

It’s an irritation obtaining results in paper format. The histocompatibility and immunogenetics (H&I) services provided by WHAIS are not in scope of the national Welsh laboratory information management system (wLIMS) system. Therefore, we are currently in the process of procuring a new laboratory information management system (LIMS), as the current in-house developed system is at end of life.

A requirement of the new H&I LIMS system is it will interface with the Welsh Clinical Portal so our test results will be available electronically.

The project to replace the H&I LIMS has only just commenced, so it is anticipated the implementation of a new system will take 2-3 years. However, we wanted to assure our service users that this is in our plans and will be delivered as soon as possible.

Would prefer electronic results
The results are not fed to the clinical portal, only distributed to the individuals on the mailing list. These results should be available in electronic format.

Moving to a paperless system and them (reports) being uploaded onto Welsh Clinical Portal
We always ask for copies to blood bank on the request form but quite often never receive a copy and have to ask for it via e-mail

1 respondent indicated that they would like the turnaround times to be ‘’ideally faster’’ It is unclear for the survey response which test(s) this refers to. We are happy to discuss our turnaround times and modify where possible they are not meeting service users requirements. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further.
